September Letter to Delegates
The S.E.A. (School Employee Alliance), an officially formed caucus within the Chicago Teachers Union, consists of a group of teachers and PSRP’s who see the need for real reform in our Union. Here are some issues that have caused our group to come together:
- We see the damage to our Union's effectiveness caused by in-fighting among our delegates and activists.
- We believe CTU leadership should strive to earn the membership's admiration and trust.
- We want the general public to respect the CTU, and its members abilities to help mold young lives.
- We want CPS to fear our potential to organize, yet value our opinions.
- We want to see our schools' administrations treat us fairly, and as equals.
- We want a union leadership that is honest and open with its members.
- We want to see CPS treat our veteran teachers as assets, and our newest members as rising stars.
- We want to ensure the salaries and benefits of our members are commensurate with Chicago's rising economy and property values.
- We want to reform our union to be ready for an ever changing school system.
- We want to ensure our next contract rectifies the flaws and setbacks of our last two agreements.
If you agree with any of the above, look into the S.E.A. (School Employee Alliance). We offer an approach that is different from any other caucus within the Chicago Teachers Union. Please check our website at www.seacaucus.net or look for our literature as you enter the House of Delegates meetings. Our website includes our mission statement and specific information on how we will bring our members together in solidarity for the first time in our union’s history. The School Employee Alliance wishes you a happy and healthy school year!
