RESPECT
The S.E.A. is dedicated to ensuring that members of the Chicago Teachers Union’s collective bargaining unit are treated with the utmost respect as professionals while educating Chicago’s children.

RENAISSANCE 2010
The S.E.A. believes that CPS should focus and expand the performance school models rather than continue the proliferation of charter and contract schools under the program known as Renaissance 2010.

JOB SECURITY
The S.E.A. will require that CPS provide greater job security to our bargaining unit members by allowing them additional time to obtain newly required certification whenever CPS changes the focus or direction of any school’s program, in lieu of displacing them. Additionally, we will strive to improve contract provisions related to job security.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The S.E.A. will help create the best possible working conditions for our members by requiring principals and department heads’ participation in sensitivity training and compatibility guidance workshops regarding the treatment of employees.

UNITY AND SOLIDARITY
The S.E.A. is committed to an honest and open exchange of views with delegates, members, and other stakeholders. If elected, our leadership will immediately appoint members of all caucuses to union committees upon the recommendation of their respective chairpersons. In addition, interviews for full-time union positions will enlist the most qualified members and unionists in good standing, and hiring will not be based on caucus affiliations.

POLICY MAKING
The S.E.A. believes that the House of Delegates is the supreme body of the Chicago Teachers Union and therefore entitled to be informed of any and all actionable union business.

BOARD/UNION AGREEMENT
The S.E.A. stands firmly behind the importance of a strong contract to be discussed monthly and in detail in the House of Delegates on an ongoing basis to ensure maximum participation and comprehension of all contract articles.
